The expedition starts with a 45 minute boat trip on the Hannah Molly from Budock Vean Hotel private foreshore to a destination depending on tides and winds, either up river towards Gweek or down river towards Falmouth Bay and Gillian Creek.

Enjoy a commentary from our experienced boatman of tales of the Helford River, from the romance of Daphne du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek, to tales of the of the river.

Enjoy the abundance of wildlife along the Helford River and it’s Creeks with buzzards, herons, egrets, kingfishers, cormorants all regularly spotted. Keep your eyes peeled as dolphins or seals have occasionally joined us.

Reaching our destination Gweek or Gillian Creek you disembark the boat onto the kayaks, already dressed in your wetsuit, the kayaks towed behind the boat and then enjoy a 2 hour stunning guided kayak adventure back along the Helford River to the Budock Vean Hotel.

Tranquil and wild

Cruise along the Helford River through ancient oak lined forests, old quays including Tremayne Quay which was built for Queen Victoria, and past beautiful creeks . Reaching Gweek we see the Seal Sanctuary, harbour and boat yard from the water where we disembark onto the kayaks.

Kayaking back along this stunning stretch of water, enjoy the abundance of bird life, beaches and creeks only accessible by kayak. A grey seal is occasionally spotted along this stretch of the river.

MANSIONS & GARDENS

Cruise along the Helford River past the grand mansions including Roger Taylor the drummer of  Queen’s Cornish abode. Past the bustling Helford Passage and two of Cornwalls great gardens Glendurgan and Trebah before turning into Gillian Creek. We disembark here onto the kayaks.

Kayaking back along the creek and Helford River past Helford Village and the chapel of St Francis of Assisi. Widlife sightings are predominantly birds including the cormorants and buzzards. A pod of Risso Dolphins was spotted here in April 2016.

Spend a day exploring the Helford River and creeks incorporating:

1 1/2  Hour Boat trip exploring Frenchman’s Creek, Helford, passing the Mansions,  Trebah, Durgan and the fishing villages of Helford  departing and returning to the Budock Vean Hotel trip.

2 hour stunning Guided Kayak Adventure to Grebe Beach taking in the Mansions, sea caves and secluded beaches OR to the Creeks Frenchman’s Creek or Polwheveral Creek taking in the ancient oak forests and abundance of wildlife.

Boat trip and Kayak Adventure can be taken at different times of the day and so you make a full day of it and include a walk along the coastal path or sit back and enjoy a lovely leisurely lunch of afternoon tea at the Budock Vean Hotel.
