On 13th September, Cornwall Heritage Trust will be hosting a special celebration of Cornwall’s rich heritage at Enys Gardens, Penryn. We’re delighted to be supporting this event with a donation to the Festival Raffle, helping to keep Cornwall’s stories alive for future generations.
But Cornwall’s heritage isn’t just something you find in museums or at special events — it’s all around us, woven into the very landscape.
St Agnes: A Coastline That Tells a Story
Sometimes, while kayaking along the St Agnes coastline, it feels as though you’re gliding past a living museum. The rugged cliffs and slipways whisper of a time when industry shaped the shoreline. At the St Agnes Museum, visitors can see images of the old quay and mine workings — reminders of the people and communities whose hard work built the Cornwall we know today.

Helford River: Where Nature Reclaims the Past
Travel to the Helford River, and the story shifts. What was once a busier river than the Thames, bustling with traders, is now a quieter place where nature has taken over. A disused smokehouse, the remains of an oyster farm, and a few haunting shipwrecks hint at its industrious past. Today, temperate rainforests fringe the riverbanks, while oysters, mussels, and scallops thrive once again in its waters.

Cornwall’s heritage is not only about what has been preserved — it’s also about what has transformed. It’s the story of industry giving way to nature, of memory meeting renewal.
