The St Agnes Kayak Adventure

Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes, Cornwall

Kayaking in St Agnes with Koru is the only way to appreciate the drama of the North coast of Cornwall. In fact this coastline was the inspiration for the drama series Poldark. The sea kayaking adventure starts at Trevaunance Cove which is in the desirable village of St Agnes and we will either head East or West depending on weather and sea conditions.

The incredible landscape is part of the World Heritage Cornish Mining and we will show you the colourful cliffs, spacious caverns carved out during the Poldark mining era and secluded beaches. The wildlife is very special both on the land and in the sea from the bird colonies on the cliffs to the likelihood of seals coming out to play. There also has been the odd sighting of dolphins and basking sharks.

"Discover Ancient Mines by Kayak..."

The kayak adventure lasts approximately 2 hours and on sunny day includes a swim on secluded beaches and the possibility of going through impressive arches and caves. In the summer we run 3 tours per day and can accommodate 8 people (on 4 tandem Kayaks) per tour.

Before we start the kayak adventure the guide will go through a detailed safety briefing with all participants and a health questionnaire will also have to be filled out.  The youngest age we take out at St Agnes is 10 years old and children have to be accompanied by an adult.

Safety

Safety is our number one priority. Kayaking requires a reasonable level of fitness and if you are unsure, please contact us.  On the morning of any kayak adventure we will check sea conditions and determine whether it is suitable to go kayaking.  The guide takes safety equipment, including a marine radio, flares and a First Aid kit on all kayak adventures.  Before kayaking everyone will fill out a Health Questionaire so the Guide is aware of any medical situations.

Equipment

We use Malibu 2XL‘s and Tarpon 130’s, which are top quality Sit-On kayaks and a lot of fun in coastal waters.  We provide buoyancy aids, paddles and wetsuits and wetsuit boots if you don’t have your own.  Please bring your own water bottle. You can bring your own phones/cameras at your own risk and we have waterproof phone cases to hire.

Timings

Koru Kayaking runs kayak trips from April through to October when sea conditions permit.  We have start times of 10am and 1pm in Low Season and 10am, 1pm and 4pm in High Season.  Times may vary due to tide times and sea conditions.  Please book in advance to get exact times and to avoid disappointment. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT HAVE ANY CHANGING FACILITIES AT THE ST AGNES VENUE

Location

We meet at the Koru Sign on the slipway before the beach at Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes TR5 0RY.  Public Transport – The No. 87 Bus serves St Agnes from Truro, Perranporth & Newquay.  On foot – Head down Quay Road or Stippy Stappy from village to Trevaunance Cove.  Parking – There are 3 car parks at the beach (Council, Driftwood Spas, Local Improvements). Please leave all valuables in your vehicle.

Sustainability

Koru Kayaking strives to be sustainable and we have a policy of collecting marine litter on all our kayak trips.  We use re-usable water bottles and our kayaks are of an excellent quality and well maintained and can be used for many years.  We support the charity Surfers Against Sewage and no fuel is used on the tours as the kayakers are the motors.
