Meet the Team
Koru was started by Tom and Hetty to share their passion of kayaking and the incredible coastline of Cornwall. The inspiration came from a guided kayak tour in Abel Tasman on the South island of New Zealand where they realised that the best way to interact with nature was by kayaking. The name Koru refers to a Maori symbol representing the unfurling of the silver fern which symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace. Cornwall has an impressive and varied coastline and the three adventures allow the public to experience this first hand.
Tom and Hetty, are both guides and are members of St Agnes Pilot Gig Club and compete in rowing competitions on the open sea around the South West and in the International Tournament in the Isles of Scilly. Tom and Hetty are members of Canoe England and British Canoe Union and have Civil Liability Insurance with Zurich Insurance Company.
Tom loves the outdoors and when he is not leading a kayak adventure he will probably be in a pilot gig boat rowing or body boarding at Trevaunance Cove. He loves to share his passion for kayaking and Cornwall. He is a member of Canoe England and has Surf Life Saving qualifications. A keen photographer with some lovely coastline photos available to buy.
Hetty lives and breathes kayaking and is a fountain of knowledge on World Heritage mining on the North Coast and on Daphne du Maurier at Frenchman’s Creek. Loves pilot gig rowing and has been an outdoor activity instructor in the past. She has specialised in marketing and advertising but prefers it on the water.
Tim grew up kayaking and sailing in the Cornish creeks. He spends most of his time on the water: when not working he can usually be found surfing, swimming, sailing or rowing in the St Agnes surf boat. Tim loves sharing his enthusiasm for the sea, the local wildlife and beautiful Cornwall.
Jamie lives in St Agnes and has great experience of the village and it’s coastline spending most if his free time in the water. Jamie is also a Junior LifeGuard and a great asset to the Koru Team.
My name is Rachael, I do the Administration for Koru Kayaking and am based down at the new beach office at Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes so come and say Hello. I have just finished my BA (Hons) Degree in Textile Design at Falmouth. I am a sports enthusiast including spinning, yoga, box-fit and love outdoor activities such as kayaking, sea swimming, running and have recently completed the Tuff Enough 2016 12km assault course.
Demelza is a 16 year old Landrover Defender 110. With 9 seats and a roof rack which holds 4 kayaks we love her to bits. In the summer she gets very sandy and in the winter a little rusty.
