In Hanover Cove there is a cavern which the locals call the “Prison” which has to be seen to believed. This cavern is part of the World Heritage Cornish Mining Area half way between St Agnes and Perranporth and part of the Cligga mining area. The cavern can be entered by walking through a South facing low cave at low tide or by kayaking through a West facing arch at high tide. In the mining era miners were lowered into the cavern at the start of their 12 hour shift and roped up at the end, making this place a pretty miserable place to work. Thanks to the miners and mother nature we have this delightful place to see on our kayak adventures.
