During lockdown Tom and Hetty set out on another adventure along the Helford starting from the Budock Vean Hotel on Port Navas Creek and following the South West Coastal Path and discovered some real hidden gems along the way and so formed our new Helford Kayak Adventure taking in the sights and delights of the Helford up river.
Kayaking up Port Navas Creek we enter the Helford River, which isn’t really a river it’s a Ria, a sunken valley which gets flooded by the sea two times a day. We kayak up past the grand houses which include Roger Taylor’s the drummer from wold famous rock bank Queen.
Then along past Helford Passage and the quaint ferry which has been running for hundreds of years first transporting cattle and now people and the lovely waterside pub The Ferryboat Inn. It’s all hustle and bustle in this busy little cove and as we look to the right the river is filled with stunning yachts and motor boats.
Kayaking along we get to see Trebah and Durgan village from the water and share tales of their history and heritage.
There’s some smugglers caves and secluded beaches to enjoy too as we moor up for a quick dip or wild swim before paddling back towards the Budock Vean Hotel.
It’s an incredible stretch of coastline with hidden areas to discover. We will still be offering out trips up Frenchman’s Creek too and Polwheveral Creek if wilderness is more you thing too!
It’s a great activity for all ages and our guides will share some great stories and tales of the flora, fauna, history and wildlife.
