Kayaking and cruising along the Helford River near Falmouth in Cornwall, we have discovered a beautiful hidden chapel. Best seen on a medium to low tide we moor up on the rocky banks of the Helford River that have been exposed with the outgoing tide.
We walked up the wooden steps and found St Francis Chapel. The chapel was built in 1930 and dedicated to the memory of Dr Leo O’Neill, brother to Sybil Jerram O’Neill who was a yachtsman and loved to sail on the Helford River.
With a small arched doorway.
and statue of St Francis of Assisi, who was the patron animals and the ecology. When entering the chapel a statue of St Francis holding an animal faces you.
